WHO DO YOU SERVE?
We were born/created to have fellowship with God. That’s the main reason man was created. If we wouldn’t fulfil anything else, but that one thing, we would have accomplished so much.
The plans God has for His children are always good, plans to give them hope and a future. He wants what is best for His children and because of that He doesn’t want us to guess what those things are. So He wrote it down through His servants, which now is THE Love Letter to the Church.
Even back in Moses’ day, God told His people the things that are important to Him and summed them up in the Ten Commandments. The first commandment says, “you shall have no other gods beside/before Me”. For He knows we are created to worship Him.
If we truly want to find our purpose in our lives we first have to find God. And because He knows this fact very well, He told the Israelites not to worship anything else other than Him. There is a spot in our heart to worship. If we don’t worship God, we will worship something else. The question is, WHO ARE YOU WORSHIPPING?
2 Chronicles 7:19 shows a few steps that are needed to stray from the Path. You can never be a Christian today and tomorrow serve something else. There is always a process. It never made sense to me how some could be so on fire on Sunday and then a few weeks later be in such a terrible backslidden state. The Word shows us what the thing is that got so many to that backslidden state.
“But if you turn away and forsake the decrees and commands I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them..”
We know the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy. Not giving him any props but to know some things, we have to look at his character. So the enemy will do everything in his power to get you distracted. For instance, Person A can’t steal something from Person B if Person B is watching over that thing constantly. Likewise the enemy distracts us so that we will loose our focus. He throws arrows our way with the word “B-U-S-Y” on it. You become so occupied with things that aren’t that important in the first place. When you go to bed, you are too tired, so you don’t want to read the Word and pray. So firstly the enemy comes to distract you with whatever fits for your life and you do the first thing that is mentioned in 2 Chron 7:19, you turn away.
Instead of looking straight/in front of You, to Jesus, you start to look to the left and right. You look at people to be your measuring stick, you look at situations around you, thinking they are bigger than the God you once served. When that happens, when distraction is being rooted in your life, you focus on situations, things and people instead of God’s Word. And you don’t read the Word, you don’t keep the Word either, cause it is not your focus any longer, you do the second thing in 2 Chron 7:19, you forsake the decrees and commands He gave you. And now the enemy has you where he wants you. Where the Word is taking out, he can show his ugly head. He always tries to steal the Word out of your life, cause that is the thing that keeps you in line and in contact with God.
For the Word brings and gives LIFE, it speaks life in death situations. It enlightens your eyes, it shows you which way you should go. The Word is as a bath to your soul, it brings healing and restoration to your spirit, soul and body. It is such a powerful tool. It keeps you in perfect peace in the midst of life’s storms. It is food to your soul. It sanctifies you. It fills you with His nature. It gives you wisdom and insight. Angels work when you speak the Word. It builds up your faith and love-walk. The Psalmist writes “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I may not sin against thee.” “How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to Your Word.” So it shows how vital the Word is. Psalm 138 also shows how important God finds His Word. “For Thou hast magnified Thy Word above ALL Thy name.” It gets more interesting when you know WHO the Word is. Revelation 19:13 shows that the Word is Christ, the Messiah. The Word became flesh! The Word, Christ has defeated the enemy, disarmed the power and authorities, made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
That is WHY the Word is so MEGA important. It is everything that you will ever need, it has everything that you will ever need. Not just what you want but what you truly need to live your life for God on this planet.
You can’t say, “I love God and I have a relationship with Him” and then say, “I don’t read the Bible”. SIMPLY NOT POSSIBLE. That aint agape love but love that is based on the way you feel, it’s based on your emotions that are so fragile. 1 John 5:2,3 says, “This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome”.
So when the Word is taking out of your life, the enemy can do what he wants. You haven’t given him a foothold but you have opened the door wide-open. Then you will serve other gods and worship them. You will be so blind, that you don’t even see how much you have straight from the Path. Now the last two things in 2 Chron 7:19 are fulfilled.
God hates it when we serve anything other than Him. It is called spiritual idolatry. It’s dangerous too! If God is the only God who gives life & is LIFE, than everything outside Him is darkness and death, so you end up in the realm of the enemy. There is no kingdom in between the Kingdom of God or the kingdom of the enemy. You are either in or out.
The Lord knows how important the Word is and He knows our nature. He is so kind and patient to remind us constantly of His Word. That’s why you hear ministers always say, “READ THE WORD”. It’s not just to kill some of your time. It is vital. In Numbers 15:29, the Lord instructed Moses to make tassels on garments, so that the Israelites would remember all the commands of the Lord, so that they would obey them and not prostitute themselves spiritually by going after the lust of their own hearts & eyes. Now a days, since most of those who come to the faith aren’t Jews and are not wearing those garments with tassels, God has given us something so much greater, HIS HOLY SPIRIT! His Holy Spirit prompts us to read the Word. You have this feeling inside of you that draws you to the Word. Now you don’t have to look at the tassels of people around you, but simply listen and follow the Holy Spirit in you and feed on the Word.
Just like our natural body can’t live very long without food, likewise our born again spirit needs to be fed daily with the Word. Non of us just eats one time per day, we eat constantly, if it’s aint candy, it’s chips or cookies, we always need something to chew on. Don’t you think your spirit needs to be fed in the same manner? It aint enough to read the Word in the morning and then spend the whole day and go to bed without reading it. As if you would only eat in the morning every week. Eventually you pass out cause you are not getting all the vitamins and nutrition that you need. We should stress it to read the Word just as we find it important to eat food or we will pass out spiritually or we will only have enough Jesus in us for ourselves. Instead of having so much of Jesus in us that we can share it with others, so that God can work through us. We are still His hands and feet. But okay that is another message.
The Word keeps you focused. When the Word is planted & rooted in your heart, outward things won’t be able to distract you, cause your eyes are fixed on the Lord. The enemy can throw as many fiery arrows your way, but the armour of God, which is made out of the WORD, will catch all those arrows so that it won’t come near your heart.
Other that we deal with the enemy’s arrows, we deal with tempting situations and generational curses and the list goes on, but those are not the reason why we backslid and serve other gods or fall back into our previous sins. The root of it all is that we don’t read and act upon the Word. Cause if we did, all those things that came on our path would flee the same way they came in. For the Word is way too powerful! Never underestimate the power that is in the Word.
So the Word is important. The Lord knew we would easily stray from His Path, that is why He gave us His Word & His Holy Spirit, so that we can remember and READ of His goodness, faithfulness and love.
Make time to read the love letter that has been written to and for you, I bet you will enjoy it!
“So be very courageous and steadfast to keep and do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, turning not aside from it to the right hand or the left, that you may not mix with these nations that remain among you, or make mention of the names of their gods or swear by them or serve them or bow down to them. But cling to the Lord your God as you have done to this day.”
